GFI Software: email protection is the most important part of IT security for Czech SMBs

74% of IT vendors experience phishing attacks most often. One of the most effective protections is user training.

PRAGUE, April 27, 2022GFI Software, provider of enterprise network security solutions, said that 84% of its partners in the Czech Republic and Slovakia believe that email protection is the most important part of IT security, according to a survey it conducted among partners. The survey, conducted in April 2022 among ZEBRA SYSTEMS resellers, also notes that alongside a suite of technical tools, regular user training is one of the most effective activities.

In a SMB business environment, corporate email is among the most critical information, and mail servers and applications are typically the most important IT infrastructure, as their failure essentially brings business operations to a halt – regardless of industry or organization type. Yet many organizations underestimate email security, as seen, among other things, in the success rate of phishing emails, which are now the most prevalent form of cyberattack.

Some of the most interesting statistics from the survey include:

  • From an overall cyber risk perspective, IT vendors are most likely to encounter phishing attacks (74%), ransomware (45%) and exploitation of software vulnerabilities (37%).
  • 84% of Czech and Slovak IT vendors said that email protection is the most important part of IT security for their SMB customers, while 62% said endpoint protection and 30% said it is password protection.
  • In the case of email attacks, vendors say their customers most often face spam (84%), phishing emails (71%) and emails with spoofed addresses (47%).
  • The most effective protections are mail server antiviruses (68% of respondents), user training (65%) and antispam filters (59%).

“Electronic mail has long been the communication channel through which most cyber attacks are directed,” said Marie Baranová, Sales Manager for GFI Software solutions in the Czech Republic and Slovakia at ZEBRA SYSTEMS. “Therefore, it is important to protect email traffic with multi-layered security not only on end devices, but also on the mail server with antivirus, antispam and anti-phishing filters. In addition to this, continuously educate users about emerging forms of email attacks.”
